Kuhlman, Pionk to represent the U.S. at World Junior A Challenge

USAH logoUMD recruits Karson Kuhlman and Neal Pionk have been named to the 2013 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the World Junior A Challenge, it was announced today by USA Hockey.

Kuhlman, a former standout with Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, is tied for the Dubuque lead in scoring through four games (2-2=4), while Pionk — a Hermantown product —  has a single assist in five games this season with Sioux City. Both players were rated as ‘C’ skaters on NHL Central Scouting’s Preliminary Players to Watch list last month.

Kuhlman and Pionk join fellow UMD recruit Blake Heinrich (2012) as future Bulldogs picked to play for Team USA at this event. Additionally, four current UMD skaters — Dan Molenaar (2012), Andy Welinski (2011), Austyn Young (2011) and Caleb Herbert (2010) — donned the Red, White and Blue for USA Hockey at the World Junior A Challenge.
